It has not been a month yet. We are constantly working on improvements, but both have many other important things to due.
What I stumble upon while doing research on the topic of stereotype is that many people have misconceptions. They misunderstand stereotyping.
Stereotypes are not always bad, they are "simply" simplifications. Like I said in the rough definition, they help us to navigate through the chaos of our world. They help us to make sense of cultures around us. Sure, they also may hurt or cause discontent, anger or even hatred.
So far we only had one person posting hateful stuff and I deleted it, since it was not about stereotypes, but only about expressing anger.
Anybody reading this... be reminded that it is not about censoring opinions, but about not giving hatred a space.
There are many spaces online to express hate, this hopefully will not become another one. The rules clearly state the purpose.
And this is information and entertainment! Racist can go somewhere else. I rather think of embracing cosmopolitanism.
Yes, the page is all about "grouping" (for an "intellectual kick" please see Roger Brubakers "Ethnicity without groups" - great book).
BUT it is grouping with a wink. The first step to get rid of misconceptions, prejudices or weird ideas (however you want to call it) is to know them.
With the voting - function it might actually also be possible (hopefully in the near future) to have an idea, if people actually believe in the stereotype or if it is only one commonly used for satire or other kinds of humor. Or maybe only to hurt.
This being said, we are hoping that you like the idea of this page and that it will set off at some point and be frequently visited, because for a positive value...
We will see.
